CHOGM, ideal stage to showcase SL’s post war achievements
The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Sri Lanka next month will be the ideal stage to showcase Sri Lanka’s achievements during the past four years after three decades of war, to the whole world, National Cadet Corps (NCC) Director Major General Gamini Jayasundara said.
Major General Jayasundara said the opportunity which Sri Lanka received to hold CHOGM is to be cherished since this would give better prominence to the country’s image before the international community and hence rubbish the allegations by both local and international elements against Sri Lanka. “We are on a fast track towards development with the end to terrorism. President Mahinda Rajapaksa is leading Sri Lanka towards the Wonder of Asia. In such a situation, I do not think anyone will get a chance to criticise the country’s progress achieved during the last four years,” he said
“The world has already accepted that Sri Lanka is the only country which has shown such progress in a post war period. Holding CHOGM in Sri Lanka this year will prove this to the world once again,” Major General Jayasundara said.
