Number of mega development projects to be implemented next year -President
President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday said a number of mega development projects will get off the ground next year in addition to the projects that have already commenced.
President Rajapaksa was addressing Parliamentarians at Temple Trees, representing the government and those supporting the government in Parliament, to obtain their views for the preparation of the 2014 budgetary proposals.
The discussion also focused on the government’s program for the development of highways, power and energy, tourism, rural industries, irrigation, health and education sectors in the future.
The President has held more than 12 meetings with people representing various sectors to obtain their views for the preparation of 2014 budgetary proposals and the President is to meet the representatives of other sectors in the future. These Parliamentarians made many proposals with regard to the development projects which are to be implemented in their respective areas. They also put forward proposals for the projects to be implemented at national level through the 2014 budgetary allocations.
Special emphasis was laid on the agricultural sector at this meeting. The Parliamentarians made proposals for the introduction of a farmers pension scheme and a program to provide seeds to the farming community. Senior Minister Sarath Amunugama, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Secretarv to the President Lalith Weeratunga Finance and Planning Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera were also present.
