Secretary Defence visits housing construction sites
Secretary, Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa made an inspection visit to review the progress of the housing complexes nearing completion in the Dematagoda area in Colombo last evening (28th October).
During the inspection visit, Mr. Rajapaksa visited Estate 54, Estate 66 and Dematagoda sites. He inquired into the progress of the projects and gave necessary instructions to the officials entrusted with the constructions. He further discussed on the final arrangements, landscaping and future project plans during a table discussion withy the project officials.
Altogether there are 718 housing units nearing completion in Estate 54 and 430 units in Estate 66. These housing projects are being carried out under the direct supervision and guidance of the Secretary Defence.
Inquiring into the welfare of the nearby slum dwellers Mr. Rajapaksa visited the slums and exchanged views with them.
Once completed the housing units will be distributed among the slum dwellers who are living under deplorable conditions. As the government is committed in making Colombo a showcase city free of slums and squatters, the Secretary Defence is assiduously working towards providing these people a better living environment.
The government’s commitment is reflected in the transformation that is taking place in Colombo. The Dematagoda housing project which is nearing completion is scheduled to be vested with the shanty dwellers soon.
Civil Engineering officials of the project and senior officials of the Urban Development Authority accompanied the Secretary Defence during the inspection visit.
