Navy assists St. Jude Annual Festival at K-Point

 WASHINGTON - Ambassador Jaliya Wickramasuriya hosted a group of foreign correspondents here in a January 25 reception held at his residence, prompting a discussion of events in Sri Lanka since the end of the conflict against terrorism nearly three years ago.The reception was the first in 2012 of the National Press Club's Foreign International Correspondents Committee's "Embassy Nights," a series of meetings with ambassadors in Washington to discuss pressing international issues. The Colombo district celebrations to mark Sri Lanka's 64th Independence Day will be held at the Colombo Town Hall grounds on February 4 at 8.30 am under the patronage of Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana, the Colombo's Mayor M J M Muzzamil and Colombo District Secretary H T Kamal Padmasiri will also be present.

Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday said that none of the Majors General directly involved in eelam war IV had made a testimony to any US lawyer, in New York in 2010, alleging extrajudicial killings of civilians, surrendering LTTE cadres and dissident journalists during eelam war IV.

The Health Ministry received Rs. two billion from the Global Fund to develop health facilities in the Northern Province as a response to a request made by Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena. A massive development drive is to be implemented under a five year plan (2011 - 2016) to upgrade health facilities in the Northern Province, a Health Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, health facilities in the North Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mulaitivu, Mannar and Vavuniya districts are to be developed under the five year development plan. Rs 21,000 million for Deyata Kirula

The government has spent around Rs. 21,000 million for the Deyata Kirula 2012 exhibition, mainly on the exhibition and the development programmes in Anuradhapura district to coincide with the 64th Independence Day celebrations, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W. D. J. Senewiratne, said.
