Deyata Kirula 2012 exhibition to commence in grand scale

 Sri Lanka's biggest public exhibition Deyata Kirula is to commence in a grand scale for the 6th consecutive period at Tantirimale Oyamaduwa in Anuradhapura on 4th February afternoon. President Mahinda Rajapaksa will inaugurate the Deyata Kirula 2012 national development program and exhibition which is to coincide with the 64th National Day celebrations. |

RECOVERED MILITARY ITEMS IN NORTH & EAST

NORTH: Troops on their search and clear operations in the general areas of THIRUKETHISWARAM and CHUNDIKULAM recovered one anti personnel mine and two hand grenades on Friday (27).
Meanwhile, de-mining groups recovered one hundred and two anti personnel mines from MARATHAMADU, KOKKUTHUDUWAI and PULMUDAI areas on the same day (27).

2012, another positive year for Sri Lankan tourism - BMI

Business Monitor International (BMI) believes the outlook is still bright for Sri Lanka tourism and forecast a 55% rise in tourist arrivals to 1.42mn tourists over BMIs newly extended forecast period to 2016.
The BMI, a London-based company, publishes specialist business information on global emerging markets for senior executives in more than 125 countries worldwide.

More new Tourist Hotels in Pasikuda

Deputy Minister of Economic Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene said that 14 new hotels are being constructed in the Pasikuda Tourist Zone by the private sector businessmen investing Rs. 6,530 Million for the construction of these hotels.
The Pasikuda Tourist Zone consisting 150 acres of land has become a very attractive location for tourists, especially for the European tourists, and is being developed under the observation of the Tourist Development Authority. There will be 930 rooms in the 14 hotels being constructed.

Army troops serving the 52 Division recently donated a large stock of school accessories and gift parcels to 160 selected students from low-income group families in Varani, Jaffna.
Those school-goers living in the 522 Brigade area were gifted with packets containing, school accessories, books, clothes and a school bag, all to the value of Rs 1500.00 each during the brief ceremony at Vidaththathapalai Kamalasani Vidyalaya.

Sarath Hettiarachchi yesterday said that a certain group of people backed by International Non Government Organizations is conspiring against the country when it is on the right track for development after 30 years of protracted war.

The Colombo City Tour, Sri Lanka's first ever open deck sightseeing tour which is a venture of Sri Lanka Tourism and Ebert Silva Holidays will be celebrating its 2nd Anniversary on Saturday (28).

Youth camp held in Vavuniya

Offering a novel experience to the youths in the North and the South based on mutual understanding, co-existence and confidence, a youth training camp was held recently held in Vavuniya organized and sponsored by the National Youth Services Council, at Vavuniya "Seva Lanka" Institute.
The special feature at this venture was that 80 participants were disabled youths, representating youth clubs in Vavuniya and Badulla districts, which streangthened Sinhala and Tamil brotherhood.

After the meeting held recently in the House of Commons, a young man who claimed to be Siobhain McDonagh’s researcher (and also to work for the Bank of Scotland, during a later conversation) agreed to send me video footage of attacks on hospitals. He claimed he had a lot, and this substantiated a clip he had prepared of Dr Shanmugarajah saying that the Sri Lankan forces were attacking the hospital at which he was working.

Sri Lanka eliminated a dreaded terrorist group, with intricate global links, but receives little credit for it. Unlike elsewhere in the world, Sri Lanka has succeeded in resettling 300,000 IDPs. There are no starving children for the NGOs to feed but this gets ignored.
