27 Demoralized Tigers Surrender to Security Forces From 24th October to 30th
31 Oct 2006 - 04:15

522 Tiger terrorists including child soldiers have surrendered to the Security  Forces and the Police since the year 2002.

During  the week  from  the 24th    until the Monday (30)  27 Tigers have surrendered to the Security Forces . On the 24th of October one Tiger terrorist   surrendered to Selvnagar Army Camp.  On the 26th,  a Tiger aged 23 surrendered  to the Jaela police. On    the 27th  seven (07) Tigers  surrendered  to  the Kallar police road block . Among  the Tigers who surrendered on the 27th   one is 15 years old .  Four  are  17  years old  while the  other two are  19 and 21 years . They had  run  since the 25th for two days  from the Tiger training camp in Kadiraweli. They  said  that 30 Tigers who were  under training  were below the age of  14 years and about another 30 had also  run away.

On the 29th, three  Tigers  escaped from a training camp but one was shot dead  on being spotted by the Tiger trainers. The other two surrendered  to the Vandaramoolai camp on the 29th, although  one had sustained severe injuries  in the shooting.

These  Tigers who surrendered after escaping from the Tiger training camps  had  similar complaints. They complained   about  being harassed and insulted sometimes even   sexually abused and the punishments were severe often beaten with sticks if they did not respond to their commands. They complained they had been fed on a continuous daily diet of rice and  brinjal curry for lunch and plain pittu for breakfast.  They were   aware  that the   LTTE leadership who always claim to be the "sole representatives of the Tamils had harassed, tortured them  and threatened their families with severe reprisals if they  deserted.

However   in spite of all threats and reprisals some escaped risking their lives.

A total of 16 Tigers  surrendered  on the 30th . Nine(09) of them  surrendered to the Selvanagar Army camp and seven(07) to  Mahindapura camp, escaping from a training camp at Kadiraveli.
